Lisa Smaga, COO
25+ Years of Experience
With more than 25 years of healthcare and operations experience Mrs. Smaga is directly responsible for PIMS’s operations, for its successful growth and long-term stability. This includes enhancing efficiencies, as well as developing strategies for increasing revenue for our clients. Mrs. Smaga’s areas of expertise include physician practice management, revenue cycle management, system-wide electronic health record solutions, process improvements and consulting for healthcare systems on a national level. In addition, Mrs. Smaga supports a wide range of engagements, including, but not limited to, practice assessments for medical groups of all sizes with a focus on revenue cycle and ambulatory operations, ICD-10 documentation, project management and information system optimization.
Ms. Smaga is a member of the Medical Group Management Association and College of American Pathologists. She is also a member of several other professional associations pertaining to revenue cycle management and practice management. . She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications and marketing from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
PIMS’ Accounts Receivable and Collections Manager
Ms. Palma brings to the table over twenty five years of experience within insurance and healthcare billing industries;
Ms. Palma works exclusively with ancillary service providers, specifically hospital-based pathologists and independent laboratories. Working hand-in-hand with PIMS’ clients, Ms. Palma ensures favorable results and hard-fought negotiations.
Intimate knowledge of the challenges facing ancillary service providers, Ms. Palma works to educate managed care companies and third party payors on the benefits of each particular agreement. She ensures fair rates and appropriate language specific to such providers.
Ms. Palma provides follow-up services, escalating any improper payments or inappropriate fee schedule loads, to the proper departments within each managed care company or third party payor to ensure compliance with contractual terms and payment obligations.
PIMS’ Billing & Coding Manager
Ms. Cashman has over twenty years of experience in the management of physician medical practices, specializing in clinical and anatomic pathology, in addition to internal medicine, general surgery, colon-rectal surgery, and plastic surgery; Within PIMS, Ms. Cashman is directly responsible for managing both the coding and billing claims departments, in addition to overseeing the transcription services department; Ms. Cashman also leads PIMS’ consulting services, including the successful offering of hospital staff/administration seminars on the appropriate use of CPT coding, implementation and deployment of mechanisms for accurate/valid charge capture. She specializes in conducting individualized coding and reimbursement training programs, in addition to assisting pathology practices with understanding defendable coding positions; During her time at PIMS, Ms. Cashman has played an instrumental role in securing payment for various client settlements in excess of $1M; Served for ten years on the advisory board of one of the largest insurance billing and national coding academies where she developed curriculum and instructed future procedural coders of America.
PIMS’ Information Systems Director
Ms. Mahon has over a decade of experience in directly managing electronic interfacing with hospitals and laboratories of all sizes.
Ms. Mahon has also spent more than twenty years within the medical billing arena with a core focus on billing for independent and hospital based laboratories, pathology practices, radiology groups and cardiovascular physician groups.
Successfully developed and deployed an ancillary in-house software package for the management of Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) Posting, Denial Management and Accession tracking; Directly responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of billing software.
Jenny Groves, CHC
PIMS Patient Relations Manager & Compliance Officer
Ms. Groves is a member of The Society or Corporate Compliance and Ethics and is Professionally Certified in Healthcare Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association. She is responsible for HIPAA Privacy, Security and Compliance within PIMS and handles all associated compliance training for new and existing PIMS, Reliance Pathology Partners and Ruffolo, Hooper & Associates, MD, PA employees; Ms. Groves oversees the PIMS Compliance committee and is responsible for audit and monitoring activities as well as implementing and managing company procedures and policies; Ms. Groves is directly responsible for PIMS’ Patient Relations Department, as well as managing client contracts and legal correspondence for PIMS’ and their clients.
