Julie Vitko, M.D.

Julie Vitko, M.D. is the Secretary/Treasurer for Physicians Independent Management Services, Inc. (PIMS). 

 Born and raised in Venezuela, Dr. Vitko has been a board certified pathologist in anatomic and clinical pathology since 2004.  She obtained her medical degree from the University of Zulia School of Medicine in Maracaibo, Venezuela, where she was an exemplary student, ranked 4th in a class of 223, and graduated with Diplomas of Honor, as she was awarded in recognition of excellent performance in numerous pre-clinical and clinical clerkships.  Dr. Vitko went on to complete her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology with an emphasis in hematopathology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona, where she had the distinct honor of serving as the Chief Resident, showing both leadership and drive.  During her time in Arizona, Dr. Vitko was also a licensed Medical Examiner by the Board of Medical Examiners for the State of Arizona.

 Dr. Vitko spends the majority of her practice at South Bay Hospital in Sun City, Florida, an HCA facility, where she has served as the Medical Laboratory Director since 2004.  At South Bay, Dr. Vitko has continued to exemplify both leadership and drive; she has been named to the Medical Executive Committee, awarded the nationally recognized four star excellence award, and  appointed Department Chair of Special Services.  She is also on staff at six additional hospitals in the Tampa Bay Metro Area.

 Dr. Vitko is a member of numerous medical and pathology associations, including the United States Academy of Pathology, the Canadian Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the Hillsborough County Medical Association.
