Jessica Cohen, ESQ
Jessica S. Cohen, Esq. is General Counsel & Director of Professional Practice for Physicians Independent Management Services, Inc. (PIMS). She has served in this capacity since 2006. She works on a wide range of legal issues for all of PIMS’ clients, as well as corporate matters. Ms. Cohen’s specialties include managed care contract negotiation and monitoring, hospital contract negotiation, employment law (including employment agreements, severance agreements, reductions in force), compliance (including HIPAA and HITECH), risk management, corporate matters specific to physician group structure, legislative monitoring, and medical malpractice defense . She has worked to protect pathologists’ rights to bill for the professional component of clinical pathology and has lobbied on behalf of physician groups for many similar matters.
Prior to joining PIMS, Ms. Cohen worked for the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office.
Ms. Cohen was awarded her Juris Doctor degree from The University of Miami School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her experience includes serving as a judicial intern to the Honorable Steven D. Merryday, District Judge for the Middle District of Florida, serving as a certified legal intern for the Federal Public Defender’s Office, and working as a law clerk for the Miami office of the law firm Herzfeld & Rubin.
Ms. Cohen is admitted to practice law in the state of Florida and is working toward certification in the area of Health Law. She is a member of a variety of legal associations, including the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the American Health Lawyers Association. Additionally, Ms. Cohen is a member of the American Pathology Foundation. Ms. Cohen currently serves as the co-chair of the Healthcare Law section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and was a Finalist for the Business Buddies 2011 Young Professional of the Year Award.
